When to use newspaper articles

Newspapers appear every day or every few days in thousands of places around the world. Newspaper articles especially useful in two situations:

  • when you need information on a local event that is not covered in national or global sources
  • when you need information on something that just happened (whether that's yesterday or a few months ago)

The library has several databases that, taken together, cover thousands of newspapers.

Library newspaper databases

The library has several main newspaper databases. Together, these cover thousands of newspapers.

  • Access World News: a database with articles from almost 10,000 news sources, including 27 Alaska newspapers. Includes publications from over 160 countries.
  • Newspaper Source Plus: 35 million articles from 860 papers. Over 850,000 transcripts of radio and TV news broadcasts.
