BIOL 108: Principles and Methods in Biology

This course guide was developed specifically for Biology 108 to provide information about research for your class project.

QuickSearch

A good place to start, especially if you're not sure where to find information on your topic. Some topics are well covered here, but for others, it's best to search specific subject databases (see list in the box to the right).

Databases for Finding Scientific Articles -- Best Bets

Start your research by searching one of these databases:

What do I do if the journal (or book) I want is not at UAA?

Use Interlibrary Loan & Document Delivery (ILL) to request a book or a copy of an article from a journal in another library.

NOTE! You can also request an ILL for articles that the Library has in print.

  • Create an account if you've not used ILL before by entering your Blackboard login.
  • Articles generally take 2 - 5 days, depending on whether the lending library can send the documents electronically.
  • Books will take longer, usually 7 - 10 days, since the book has to physically be sent through the mail.
  • You will be notified via your UAA email when the requested item has arrived.

For more information, read the FAQs below the login box on the ILL page.

Searching Basics

Search by Journal Title

If you know the title of the specific journal or magazine you're looking for in the library's online and print collections, search by Journal Titles. You can also browse for journals by Subject.
