Alexander Street Streaming Videos

The Consortium Library subscribes to multiple streaming video collections from Alexander Street. The collections include documentaries, films, trainings and demonstrations, news programs, etc., across a wide variety of subject areas. The largest collection, Academic Video Online: AVON, is a multidisciplinary collection of over 60,000 streaming videos.

Features of Alexander Street videos include:

  • Transcripts: searchable, scrolling transcripts
  • Clipping functionality: create, annotate, and share video clips and playlists
  • Comprehensive permissions: in-class, on-campus, and remote viewing.

Alexander Street streaming videos can be integrated into courseware like Blackboard and other websites in two ways, via linking or embedding.

Tips for Embedding Alexander Street Videos in Blackboard

  1. Copy the embed code from the video (see Link and Embed Best Practices).
  2. Create a content item in Blackboard.
  3. Toggle the editor to HTML mode and paste the embed code.

Note:   Your embedded video may not display immediately. It takes a few seconds for the video to show after you embed it (this depends on the speed of your internet connection). If after a few minutes, you still do not get a video, try the process again.

Public Performance Rights

Alexander Street streaming videos include limited public performance rights, which includes permission for classroom showings, as well as public screenings, as long as no admission is being charged.
