Information on using ProQuest's scholarly ebook collection on the Ebook Central platform.

More Information

For further information on Ebook Central features, visit the ProQuest site:

How can I find books that aren't limited to 1 user at a time?

Go to Advanced Search. Near the end of the page, you'll find a field for "Number of Copies." Select "More Than 1" or "Unlimited."

User Access

The Consortium Library licenses two types of ebooks through ProQuest Ebook Central:

  • Unlimited user access: a subscription package of over 50,000 ebook titles with unlimited simultaneous user access
  • Single user access: ebook titles purchased individually which can only be accessed by one user at a time

Each type of ebook has pros and cons. See the descriptions below for more explanation.

Unlimited User Access

The Library subscribes to "College Complete," a multidisciplinary package of over 50,000 ebook titles available on the ProQuest Ebook Central platform. Ebooks in this collection allow for unlimited simultaneous user access. That means that many people can read the same book at the same time. An unlimited number of users can also simultaneously download the entire ebook for offline reading. See the Downloading tab for more information.

A subscription package allows us to access a large quantity of ebook titles for a relatively low cost. Unfortunately the library does not own perpetual access to these titles, and we have no control over the titles in the collection. Proquest makes updates to this collection twice a year, removing some titles from the collection and adding others.

You can tell if a book offers unlimited access by looking under "Availability" on the Book Detail Page.  You will see the statement:

"Your institution has unlimited access to this book"

Single User Access

In addition to the College Complete collection, the library purchases individual Ebook Central titles. These single user titles can only be accessed by one person at a time and have limited download periods. The library owns perpetual access to these titles, so they will not be removed from the collection during any ProQuest updates.

You can tell if a book is a single user title by looking under "Availability" on the Book Detail Page.  You will see the statement:

"Your institution has access to 1 copy of this book."
