Subject-specific encyclopedias are a good place to start your research.
Because they cover dozens or hundreds of topics, they can be a good way to pick a topic for your research paper. They are also a good way to do background research as you figure out the basic outline of your topic.

In the library's reference room, which stores our dictionaries and encyclopedias, you will find the Encyclopedia of Social Work. Its call number is HV 35 S.6.
Although this encyclopedia dates back to 1995, it remains useful. It is easy to browse and read. It would be useful for identifying a topic since it covers 290 of them. It also suggests search terms that you can use as you research each topic.
