Mat-Su College: Statistics

A library guide for students enrolled in Mat-Su College statistics courses.

Statistical Insight: Introduction

Statistical Insight is a database with tens of thousands of documents containing statistical information. These include state and federal government documents (about 7,500 per year back to the 70s) as well as documents from international agencies like the United Nations.

Read below to find out how to use Statistical Insight.

Statistical Insight: basic use

When you first enter Statistical Insight, you will see a page with a lot of buttons and search boxes. Don't be overwhelmed. Focus on the search bar at the top of the page:

Search interface for statistical insight, with the search field, date limit, and search button highlighted

Enter your search terms on the first search bar (1). If desired, change the date limit (2) to search beyond just the last five years. Finally, click search (3). You should then see a page that looks similar to this:

Note that you can narrow your search results down using the options on the left. In the screenshot above, I am about to narrow results down by year and by location.

Search results will give each document's title, authoring agency, and date. Click the title to see download options. You will typically have at least a link to the full document. In many cases you will also be able to download individual tables as PDF or spreadsheet files.
