Paramedical Technology: RefWorks

A guide for students taking PMED courses at Mat-Su College and other UAA campuses.

What is RefWorks?

RefWorks is a tool for storing information about articles you find in databases. You can use RefWorks to later find these articles, or to generate bibliographies (aka works cited or reference pages).

Exporting citations from CINAHL into RefWorks

When you are in CINAHL and you find an article you want to put into RefWorks, start by clicking its title to view the full record:

In the full record click "Export":

Leave RefWorks selected and click save:

When asked to login to RefWorks select the new RefWorks and login using the email and password you used to sign-up (these could be different than what you use to login to your university accounts).

Exporting Citations from ProQuest Nursing to RefWorks

When you are in ProQuest Nursing and Allied Health and you find an article you want to put into RefWorks, start by clicking the checkbox next to it in the search results (1); then click save (2) and RefWorks (3):

Next, at the Export/Save pop-up, click Continue:

When asked to login to RefWorks select the new RefWorks and login using the email and password you used to sign-up (these could be different than what you use to login to your university accounts).

Getting a Works Cited page from RefWorks

Within RefWorks (you can login here) click the "All Documents" link in the left menu. Now click the checkboxes next to the sources you wish to cite; then click the quotation mark icon in the toolbar (2) and choose "Create bibliography" (3):

At the next page you should see a bibliography created from your selected sources. You can copy and paste this into your paper. Remember to double check this for accuracy. If you need the bibliography in a style other than APA 6th edition (the default), use the toolbar to select another style:
