Select the kind of device you are using and ProQuest Ebook Central will then guide you through the steps you need to follow to download a book. For more detailed assistance, refer to the ProQuest help links in the More Information box.

Adobe Digital Editions is required to download ProQuest Ebook Central ebooks. If using a mobile device, you will need to download the free Adobe Digital Editions app from the Apple App Store or Google Play. You might also need to create an Adobe ID, depending on how you want to use your device.

Note: You can use other reader apps as long as they are able to handle the Adobe DRM (Digital Rights Management). Search in the app store of your choice for e.g. 'adobe drm reader' or just 'adobe drm' to get a list of potentially suitable apps.

Once you have Adobe Digital Editions downloaded, click on "Done with this step." You will then be prompted to download your book. For most titles you can select the loan length and the download format. Unlimited user titles can be checked out for up to 21 days. Single user titles can only be checked out for one day (24 hours).

For many books in Ebook Central, you can choose your download format - PDF or EPUB. Books in PDF retain the look and feel of the print book. EPUB allows you to resize the text of the book, which may be helpful on a tablet, phone, or other smaller device.

Once you click on "Download" an .acsm file will be downloaded onto your computer/device. Double-click on the book file (.acsm file) and depending on your settings, it will either launch Adobe Digital Editions or ask you what program you would like to open it with. (Select Adobe Digital Editions).

The first time you open a book (.acsm file) with Adobe Digital Editions, you will be asked to "Authorize Your Computer." The ebook vendor showing by default is "Adobe ID"; do not change this default.

Note: An Adobe ID enables you to use more of the features of Adobe Digital Editions, but it is not required. If you want to authorize your computer without an Adobe ID, check the box at the bottom left corner of the screen: "I want to Authorize my computer without an ID".

Once you have Adobe Digital Editions set up, you should now be able to seamlessly download ProQuest Ebook Central ebooks and read them offline on the Adobe Digital Editions Reader on your own computer/device.

Note: A book cannot be checked back into Ebook Central early, but will simply "expire"  from your Adobe Digital Editions reader when the time is up.

See "Getting Started with Adobe Digital Reader" in your Adobe Digital Editions library to learn more about using the features on this platform.

Download PDF Chapter or Page Range

Ebook Central also allows you to download a chapter or page range without having to download the entire book. These downloaded PDFs include a citation and do not expire.

In most cases there is a limit on the number of pages that can be copied, printed, or page/chapter-downloaded per title. Each book's print/download and copy allowance is displayed on the Book Details page, and can vary depending on the publisher. Once you have printed/chapter downloaded a page, the allowance automatically counts down. The allowance will reset after 24 hours, giving you the full number of pages to copy/print/download again.

You can also download a chapter or print pages through the Online Reader's icons. The Chapter Download icon will allow you to download the current chapter. The Print icon will allow you to input a page range. It will then download those pages in PDF.

3. Click the Download button

4. You can choose to download a PDF (60 pages or less) or the entire document

(Note: not all ebrary ebooks can be downloaded. You will receive a message if the book cannot be downloaded.)

5. If you choose to download the entire document and Adobe Digital Editions is installed on your computer, you will be asked if you want to open or save the file

6. If you select Open with..., Adobe Digital Editions will open and your newly downloaded book will be displayed in your library

7. If you are downloading the entire document to a computer that does not have Adobe Digital Editions, you will be prompted to save the file. The downloaded file will be in acsm format. This acsm file does not contain the entire ebook, but it is a small file and can be saved to a USB drive or sent as an email attachment. You can then transfer the file to a computer that does have Adobe Digital Editions or open the emailed file on a supported mobile device.
